Increase Living And Storage Space With Garage Planning

by Jonass Swelling on February 19, 2010

Garage planning, whether detached or attached to the main house or building, requires strict considerations of important things like safety, capacity, and possibility. Anyone who wants to build or renovate a garage for whatever reasons should have a firm garage planning.

Although the renovation or the building of a new garage is only do-it-yourself job, garage planning is still important because local government would not allow or issue building permit without your garage plan. And to ensure the approval of the permit, your vicinity should show safety from any probable incidences.

Garage planning may depend on the purpose. You may want it to house a one car but it involves other considerations as well like the estimation for the type of car, the extra space for clearance of both sides to prevent the car from being scratched, and for some necessities. You may want your garage to be a space for extra boxes or things like bikes, or just an extra space for your kids’ play area. You would not want to spend another charges the next you want to expand it again. Might as well plan for it now and measure the area to be occupied so you could include everything in your budget.

You might also want to include the size of the car that you are planning to purchase. If the car is large, you should make the garage fit enough to house the new car and still have extra space for other things. The height of the garage should also be considered based on the new car because some cars have high antennas. To make use of the extra space above, you can plan some usage so the space will not be wasted.

In building a garage separate from the main house, you will need the permit to build as approved by the local government. This is the reason why most of the garages are built attached to the main house. But if you prefer to have your garage separate from the house, you can ask your local zoning department so they will guide you of what to do to make the garage planning without hassle.

Garage planning should be decided properly. Everything that needs to be taken into account should be included while planning because, once the garage is built, you can only repaint it or rearrange the things in it but you can no longer rebuild it.

Sometimes garage planning just means cleaning it out and getting rid of old stuff that is cluttering it up. Many people tend to clean their garage when a new car is purchased or when a member of the family moves away to college. Plan a garage sale and try to make some money for costs associated with repainting, what you don’t sell you can give away to charity, everyone benefits.

To make your garage always looking new and fresh, clean it and arrange the things stored on it. If it needs repainting, do so as long as it would not hurt your budget. Make the most out of your garage and enjoy the extra space for whatever function you want to. Just make sure that the garage planning was done thoroughly so as it would not create problems later on.
