Relocating By Using Plastic Bags And Boxes Uncovered

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

If you are planning on a move, you are going to need to get boxes and bags period end of story. It doesn’t matter whether or not the cardboard boxes are made out of cardboard or plastic, all that matter is how many you need and where you are going to get them. You need to plan ahead and figure out the amount you will require and get several extras.

You’ll also need newspapers, paper, packing foam and/or bubble wrap. You’ll also need tape, a marker pen and if you get them, stickers to mark your boxes.

Buying boxes and containers from hardware stores or grocery stores is a correct way to get sturdy, reusable containers for your new house, but may not prove to be cost effective if you’ve got lots of belongings. Boxes are a good, cheap alternative to plastic containers and can be bought from web sites, along with tape and stickers to mark your boxes.

Cardboard Boxes are a great way to pack things into regular spaces and makes them easier to carry. Some of the diverse places that you can find boxes besides these retail and wholesale sites include your local grocery stores, cringes list, and even your local recycler. There are a lot of moving companies out there who will work with you on boxes, even supplying them for you if you are renting their equipment or are using their men to pack up your things and move them for you.

For packing up garments and linens, there really isn’t anything better than large plastic bags, but you want to make sure that you get the sturdy plastic bags as you don’t want them to bust open on you during the move. another reason they are so great is that they fit in nicely where other things won’t in the truck.

You don’t want to waste your money by buying cheap plastic bags as they will bust apart as soon as you go to lift one of them up that is full of clothing. Do yourself a favor and get the good ones. When it comes to plastic bags you also need to be careful of snagging them on pointed objects as it does not take much to tear one especially if it has a lot of weight in it. You need to make sure that any of the containers that you buy for moving are stack able, preferably compatible with boxes, otherwise you will need to keep them all diverse and stack all of the boxes in the van first and then the other containers so you can make the most of the space you have available to you.

Boxes are also used a lot for shipping. If you are in need of cheap shipping boxes, then you absolutely must see http://boxesforshipping.org to guarantee that you know the best sites to acquire shipping boxes online.

How To Effectively Hire A Reputable Moving Company

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Selection of a moving company is not to be taken lightly, and there are considerations that must always be taken. It is imperative for your piece of mind to achieve an efficient move that entails no stress or worry. If you decide on the wrong moving company, you’re in for a lousy experience. Its good to employ a company that can be trusted, and that treats your household items as if they were their own.

If you hire a moving company it will definitely cost at least twice as much as moving yourself, but when you consider all the hard labor you will avoid and all the time you will save you’ll soon realize it is worth every penny. You will likely only feel this way after if you have chosen a top notch moving company though. If you don’t, your attitude could be quite different.

When you hire professional movers you are choosing the best alternative for your peace of mind, if you are hiring a company with a stellar reputation. How do you know who has good credentials though? Referrals are absolutely the most authentic and reliable verification of a company’s performance. If you know of someone who has moved recently be sure to inquire about the service they received. If that is not an option for you, you can always use the internet to find customer comments and reviews and ideally this will give you the information you need to select a good moving company.

One of the most important considerations for you when planning your move is moving insurance. Make sure you are aware of the coverage that will be provided and what the limits are on the insurance. If it is available, always purchase additional insurance.

If you want a short cut to discovering the moving companies you would never want to hire, simply visit the Better Business Bureau website. If a company has been receiving poor customer reviews, you will read all about it here. You can also find companies that have excellent ratings with the BBB as well.

Do not let yourself be taken advantage of with additional fees and charges that were not disclosed. Moving companies are often known for shady tactics like this and it is really important to let it be known you will not be accepting this type of behavior. Always make sure you have disclosure of all costs that you will incur with the transaction.

When you’re packing your possessions its a good idea to use quality boxes and tape. The last thing you want is for the boxes to fall apart on you. Always be very delicate when carrying and moving the boxes and do not drop them on the ground.

When you hire a moving company that is aware of your needs and performs to meet those needs you will be so relieved when you are moved into your new home. When selecting a moving company you should consider the insurance they offer, their standing with the Better Business Bureau, and their range of charges for certain services. On top of that they should be prompt and courteous and above all else committed to make your transition easy and stress free.

Moving Supplies: Tips For A Stress-free Move

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

No one likes to move. If you have ever moved from larger to small quarters, you probably were extra stressed. Planning ahead and using the right moving supplies can help facilitate the efforts associated with your next move. It is important to prepare for your move with a detailed list including supplies, equipment and time schedules in order to avoid excessive stress on one or both ends of the move.

Filling Boxes and Crates

If you choose boxes that are too small, you will have problems fitting large items into a box for easy transport. On the other hand, if the boxes are too large, they will be harder to handle and may be too heavy to lift by some of your moving help. When you pack items into the boxes or cartons, they should fit snugly or you should use packing material around items to protect against breaking or shifting. Packing boxes should be sturdy and should have lids or should be constructed in such a way that they can be sealed.

Stuffing and Padding Your Possessions

For large furniture pieces, you should obtain furniture blankets or pads to protect edges and corners from scratches and scrapes. Furniture pads and blankets are often provided free or at a nominal charge when you rent a moving truck. Do not make the mistake of using household bedding to protect valuable furniture pieces; it is usually not dense enough to provide adequate protection. Rubbing of wood or metal can destroy the bedding as well as the adjacent hard surface.

Dust Covers

The importance of preventing dust and dirt on valuable possessions cannot be overstated. Dust has erosive qualities that can damage delicate finishes. Dust covers or sealed cartons help to prevent dust and dirt. If you must store items, dust covers will reduce the amount of cleaning and dusting that will be necessary at your destination.

Limit What You Move

Part of the preparation for moving should be to discard unwanted, unused or unneeded items prior to the move. Get rid of these items rather than moving them with related time, resources and effort involved in the move.

Moving Equipment to Help Avoid Back Strain

Other obvious items that should be part of your moving supplies is hand trucks and appliance dollies. Even the most muscular helpers amongst friends and relatives do not want to be injured by lifting cartons that are awkwardly placed or sized, or that are simply to heavy. Heavy appliances and furniture requires special handling to avoid injury to movers or furniture.

Planning and Labeling

In order to make your unpacking process more efficient, you should make certain that all boxes and cartons are labeled so that they are easily read. The boxes should be sealed and the label should list the contents of the box, where it is to be placed at the destination and whether it is a high priority item.

Most important, do not let the stresses of moving day overwhelm your need for food and water. Nutritional items are important moving supplies to keep spirits up and energy high.

The Hardships Of Moving Out And Back In Again

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Moving day is a backbreaking one and requires patience and careful attention. But not everyone who takes on the task of moving is mentally prepared for it. Moving furniture up and down stairs, packing, unpacking, buying home supplies, choosing what to pick and throw away, etc., etc., etc. But even after all that work and stress there’s still something we’ve forgotten to do.

Just thinking about it is stressful enough. But what if there was another way out there? A better way? Good news, there is. They’re called movers, and for all of us regular mortals, they might as well be godsends. Movers come to your home, take your over packed boxes into their tender mercy, pack them into their truck, and drive them wherever you want them to go.

Then, once they get there, they’ll unpack the truck and repeat the process all over again, only this time it’ll be done backwards. Heavy, unyielding, furniture is no longer the bane of your existence. Movers are handpicked to be able to handle that very thing. There’s no longer any cursing, crying, or back breaking labor for people aren’t used to such things. There’s no longer a fear that your cousin, or boyfriend will break a precious antique, or suddenly remember in the middle of it that they have something to do later on.

Movers drive out to your old home, pick up your boxes, your furniture, and your pictures, and take them all to your new house. Then they’ll unload them and take them inside for you. Simple, and convenient enough that you’ll never have to worry about unyielding furniture.

Movers are chosen for their particular field because of their ability to pick up and carry those types of things on an almost daily basis. Carry them in such a way that there’s no worry about whether they’ll drop it, or scrape the finish. Your grandmother’s antiques are safe. A good moving company is the key ingredient to getting your life back on track sooner.

Certain companies will even pack up your belongings for you. Which means that the only work on your part will be unpacking and signing the check. A great investment, but only if you choose the right company for you and your needs.

There are hundreds out there and those hundreds have their own diverse group of employees. It’s important to do research on who you’re hiring because you’re entrusting these people with your most valuable possessions as well as your hard earned money. So be strict in your requirements but not unbending.

A Skip Over To The Packaging Store For All Moving Services

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

The packaging store and the package store are two different things. In some states, a package store is just another name for a liquor store. A packaging store is the one place that individuals and small business owners can go for all off their shipping materials, printing, labeling needs, and cool tools that help make the process go much faster.

They have everything from the bubble wrap that we all fell in love with as a child to tape dispensers that allow up to seal up our packages without ever having to touch the tape. It’s pretty cool stuff.

Simple packing supplies are also available at the packaging store. If you just need some envelopes, even specialty envelopes, you have come to the right place. You can pick up a whole box of several hundred envelopes or you can purchase just one envelope. While you’re grabbing your envelopes, don’t forget the necessity of stamps. Again, whether you need an entire book or just a single stamp, your needs are met with vigor.

The biggest and most common need at the packaging store is naturally, boxes. We tend to need boxes at a time when we just don’t seem to have any. If we save boxes, we never seem to save the right kind or the right size. Boxes are perfect for wrapping up those gifts that need to get to their recipient in time. They are also the essential ingredient in a successful move.

Stamps and envelopes in every shape, size, and color are available for the simple items that you want to just drop in the mail. This is one of the few places that you can actually buy what you need. You only need one stamp and one envelope? No problem. You need several hundred stamps and envelopes of varying sizes and colors? No problem.

What about that big move you have coming up? Nobody likes to think about the number of boxes it takes to move an entire house worth of stuff to another home. It’s almost impossible to collect the right number of boxes. It’s even harder to collect the boxes of the most appropriate size and shape for all of your belongings. A quick stop by the packaging store will give you access to the tiniest boxes to fit rings into all the way up to boxes that are large enough to pack the kids in for the trip.

Boxes for shipping gifts, boxes for moving, and of course, boxes for making your small business active and viable all under one helpful and friendly roof makes it so much easier. If you want to put your small business on the map then you have to make sure your shipping is on time, safe, and ready to roll out the door on demand.

Whether you need packaging materials for business or personal reasons, there is nothing quite like having everything you need all in one spot. This makes it easy to get everything from holiday errands completed to making sure your small business is as timely as larger businesses.

As an expert in the packaging industry, Melinda Stockton is a recognized authority on packing supplies and her company provides helpful options for anyone looking for a plastic bag company.

Five Hints For Saving Time And Money When Moving House

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

If you have ever moved house, you will know how stressful, time consuming, tiring and expensive it can be. So why not take some tips from the professionals to save you time and money. Here are five key principles.

When moving home everything that you move will cost you time and money and possibly both. So well before your move date try getting rid of all the old stuff that you don’t really needed. Charities are often grateful for what you would otherwise put in the trash. Most homes have at least 10% of their contents and belongings that never get used, if you can clear your house of 10% of your possessions which will probably never be missed you can save at least 10% of the cost of moving.

Organise your boxes. Make it is easily visible for your movers what rooms they should unload your boxes into - try colour-coding your boxes to the rooms they are to go into in your new home. If you are not required to direct what room each box is to go into, then you will be free to do more important things like involve yourself in the unloading/unpacking. A quick way to colour code is to put tape of the same colour on boxes going into the same room. Use different colours for each room in your new house. You can pick up multiple coloured rolls of tape at your local hardware store for just a few dollars. Save yourself some time, energy and money.

Many hands make light work - and a speedier move. Why not get a group of friends and/or family to give you a hand on your move day. If you are paying a removalist company by the hour, it makes sense to help with the loading and unloading of your things. This will make for a faster, cheaper, less tiring move.

If you have the flexibility to do so then why not move some car loads to your new home ahead of the moving date. This means less to move on removal day again saving on money and time.

Finally but by no means least importantly, use top quality packing materials including boxes and tapes. Any savings of a few dollars on cheap boxes and tape gets easily blown away when a box bursts open sending all your valuable possession crashing to the floor.

Follow these simple and easy tips and you could save as much as 20% on the cost of your home move reducing time and stress in the process - happy home move!

Getting Ready For A Ski Holiday

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Packing for a ski vacation could be difficult especially if you have to take a flight. Lots and lots of airlines these days are charging for additional bags and particularly for the heavier ones. It is not unheard of for travellers to pay as much as their flight ticket in extra baggage charges. If you reckon you are going to have to travel with a lot of stuff with you on a holiday it would be a better idea to go with the flight company with the greatest baggage allowance or one that provides cheaper charges.

On most ski vacation resorts the flight companies are used to travellers taking skis and they generally to take this into consideration. Make sure you notify the flight company well ahead if not at the time of making your reservation that you will be taking skis and get them reserved. The airline will have a limit on the number of skis they can take on each trip. You do not want to be in the nightmare position that you arrive at the airport and you can not take your skis with you.

If you are a beginner to skiing or do not want to take your skis with you then you will usually find that you should be able to rent skis, ski boots and suitable attire in virtually every ski destination. Just check your ski resorts facilities on the net or speak to the hotel you are staying in for some local knowledge.

If you are simply can not cope without all your clothes and stuff you could organize to have a bag shipped prior to your departure date by a shipping company. With the large excess baggage charges on some flights you could discover that it is easier to transport your stuff cheaper than pay these extra costs. Make it even cheaper by sharing the cost with the people you are going with.

Ski jackets and sweaters can be large and will take up a lot of space in any luggage. Why not wear them on the flight instead. It may be to hot to do this but you can take these items on the plane with you and when you arrive in the colder ski resort you can immediately put your jacket and jumper on and get the benefit immediately.

Do not forget the more you plan and get prepared the more easily things will go and the less hassled you will be.

Getting the most out of your Neilson Ski Holiday is easy when you have so many ski resorts to choose from. Find out more with Alan Bain travel writer at Travel Snips

Moving House - Packing Hints to Make Your Move Easier

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Choice of packing supplies is very important - buy quality. The expense in purchasing purpose made packing boxes will pay off when you have a damage-free move. These boxes are strong and have been made to absorb the bumps and knocks when moving. Apply the same logic when purchasing tape - if it is strong the box will not come apart and your valuables will remain safe.

Make sure you have a range of box sizes: small, medium and large. It is better to use the smaller boxes for heavy items like books as they are easier to handle and the size limits the weight. Avoid using newspaper to wrap with as the newsprint ink can rub-off on your finer things and mark your clothes. It is better to use a packing paper, which you can purchase from removal companies. Leave the newspaper as filler/cushioning in your boxes.

The next key to successful packing is not to pack what you don’t need. Donate to your favourite charity, or throw away, everything that you don’t need. Old clothes and the bits and pieces that accumulate over the years that you never see or use. If you don’t give them away they will cost you time to pack and unpack and removal time and cost. Why not take the opportunity to clear your home of unwanted clutter.

A useful idea is to label and colour-code your boxes as you pack up each room - use different coloured tape or mark the label to identify the room. By doing this, you will keep room items together and direct what room the boxes go into at your destination. Also keep an itemised list of the contents of each box as you will have no trouble finding things after you’ve moved. A paper copy of your list will make it easier at your new home - especially if your computer and printer are packed in one of the boxes.

To minimise breakage pack your box with the heavier items on the bottom graduating to the lighter items on the top. This will reduce damage to lighter items being crushed by heavier ones. Cushion each layer of packing with a layer of scrunched up paper to stop them bumping against each other during transportation. Always mark any boxes with “Fragile” for safe handling of fine and valuable items. Avoid putting all heavy items into the same box - they will be extremely difficult to move and you may end up injuring yourself in the process.

The final tip about packing for your home move is one that will save you lots of stress. Leave lots and lots of time for packing. Most people significantly underestimate the amount of time needed to pack. Start packing as far in advance of your move as possible. The last thing you want is still to be frantically packing when moving day arrives. Happy packing!

Package Your Television for the Move

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

There are a few priceless possessions that you want to keep safe during a move, and if you are like me your television set is one of them. Properly packing your television will ensure its survival on the road and back into your home again.

If you kept the original box your television came in, that can be a good and secure way of packing your television. Finding a box that fits your specific television can be hard, and your original box was uniquely meant to hold your television. It also usually comes with foam blocks to support the specific curves of your television where other forms of packing material don’t.

Some of us, however, don’t think to keep the original box our television came in so the next best thing would to find a box big enough that will fit your television. Local moving dealerships, such as Uhaul, have a lot of different boxes available to choose from for the specific size of your television. They are also a good place to look for packing supplies to wrap around your television.

Before placing your television in the box, make sure to use bubble wrap or padding around it to absorb shock and keep it safe from the jostles of the move. Painters tape can be used to secure the padding and doesn’t cause damage to your television.

Sometimes, for one reason or another, a box can’t be found that fits your television. If this is the case make certain to use a lot of packing material. Bubble wrap is one of the best packing material out there because it absorbs a lot of shock and is easy to place. Putting card board over the screen of your television is another good idea to protect the screen from harm.

Always have another person there to help you move your Television set. If you try to move it by yourself you have a higher chance or dropping it or damaging it when placing it in its box or in the vehicle.

Never put a television on its side during the move. Placing it in as close to an upright position as possible is best when moving sincetelevisions were meant to be upright and can handle traveling a lot better that way.

Remembering to pack your television properly will keep it safe during your move. And before you know it, you will have it back on its entertainment center, ready for use - without a scratch or dent to be seen.
